Vein donor site morbidity after coronary bypass surgery: An overlooked but important issue

چکیده
The management of sternal wound complications after median sternotomy has been revolutionized by aggressive debridement protocols and muscle flap transposition (1). The potentially lethal sequela of cardiac surgery has focused the attention of plastic surgeons almost exclusively on refinements in treating such chest wounds (1,2). According to the National Cardiac Surgery Database (1994), deep sternal infection rates in first-operation coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients was 0.5% (3), which in any large medical centre with an active cardiothoracic service is a large number

Tunnelling versus open harvest technique in obtaining venous conduits for coronary bypass surgery.
BACKGROUND The tunnelling as opposed to the open harvest technique for harvesting long saphenous vein for coronary artery bypass procedures is a less frequently used technique as it requires more handling of the vein and this may induce trauma. This study aims to compare the degree of endothelial denudation and donor site morbidity between the two different harvest techniques. METHODS Sapheno...
متن کاملMajor Leg Wound Complications After Saphenous Vein Harvest for Coronary Revascularization
Background: Major leg wound complications after coronary artery bypass graft procedures are infrequent and few are reported in the litrature. We present our experience in treating 30 patients with major leg wound complications after coronary revascularization procedures. Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of 2100 bypass procedures with saphenous veingraft performed over a 5-years p...
متن کاملEffect of coronary artery bypass on QT dispersion
Introduction: QT dispersion (QT Max – QT min) reflects inhomogeneous ventricular depolarization that may provide a substrate for serious arrythmias and is associated with adverse clinical outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease. Some studies have shown reduction in QT dispersion after successful angioplasty due to coronary reperfusion, but effect of coronary artery bypass grafting o...
متن کاملRuptured saphenous vein graft aneurysm.
Ruptured saphenous vein graft (SVG) aneurysm is a rare source of significant morbidity and mortality. SVG is a common technique of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), but vein graft aneurysm and ruptured SVG aneurysm have not received the required attention as only few case reports exist. We present the case of a 50-year old man with ruptured vein graft aneurysm who had significant postoper...
متن کاملSkin complications of blood vessel donor limbs and their association with diabetes in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting
Background and Aim: According to the limited clinical observations and researches on cutaneous complications and hair growth changes of donor's site extremities, this study aimed to compare hair growth changes and cutaneous complications of donor's site extremity in patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graft between diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Methods: Patients who attended ...
